Hurry!! Today is the last day of our Giving Tuesday donation campaign! Your donation at https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/93895?v2=true will enable more people with disabilities to participate in our exciting and challenging programs.

Things were quieter at TROtt this weekend. Lesson

Things were quieter at TROtt this weekend. Lessons continued but our six week program in collaboration with the #CHEORecreationTherapy Service and Grit and Gratitude Coaching ended a week ago. We missed the laughter and cheers of 13 children and youth having a great time with our horses.

The show season may be over, but our commitment to empowering lives through equine therapy never stops! Did you know that TROtt is an integral part of the para-dressage ecosystem? Our certified instructors passionately continue training para-dressage riders, fostering a community where they can shine, whether it be in competition or for the pure joy of riding.

But that's not all – TROtt goes beyond the arena with a heartwarming Special Olympics program in collaboration with @specialolympicsontario. This initiative opens the world of equestrian sports to individuals with intellectual disabilities, offering them the chance to experience the thrill of riding and the camaraderie of the equestrian community. These programs stand alongside our therapeutic riding initiatives, creating a diverse tapestry of support for those in need.

The @ottawa_dressage_festival has long been a cherished ally, generously supporting our mission to make a difference in the lives of those facing unique challenges.

Happy Meet the Team Monday everyone! This week we have a very special member of the TROtt team we would like to introduce you to, Jill Anne Joseph. Jill is the Chair of the Board and one of our TROtt horse handlers. She came to us with no background in therapeutic riding or with horses but quickly learned from our excellent instructors and other volunteers.

Jill loves volunteering on the TROtt board because it brings together a lot of talent, experience, and dedication. She enjoys the camaraderie of like-minded individuals working together to build up the TROtt program. As Jill puts it, TROtt is the best volunteer gig around! #meettheteammondays #weloveourvolunteers #TROttriding

Welcome back to Meet the Team Mondays, this week we want to introduce you to one of our Barn Staff Ikram. You will see Ikram in the weekly lessons as a horse handler or sidewalker, helping with regular barn chores like cleaning paddocks and stalls, sweeping, etc. We appreciate Ikram helping to keep TROtt looking clean and organized.

With a background in biomedical science and an interest in medicine, like many of our volunteers, Ikram did not have any background in horses or therapeutic riding, but the other volunteers and staff at TROtt taught him everything he needed to know. It was the community element that drew Ikram to work with the program. He was interested in helping better the lives of people with disabilities and sharing his passion for horses with other people.

Welcome to our new series called Meet the Team Mon

Welcome to our new series called Meet the Team Mondays! Here at TROtt we have many gracious volunteers who make the program so special for our riders. The purpose of this series is to introduce you to some of these wonderful individuals.

This week with Meet the Team Mondays, we would like to introduce you to one of our horse handlers Barb. She is one of our volunteers who comes to us with an extensive background with horses. Barb has always loved horses since she was a little girl and used to take riding lessons herself a long time ago. When the stable she rode at closed down she came to TROtt to continue pursuing her passion for horses. Barb started with our program as a sidewalker and like a lot of volunteers got the training to become a horsehandler as well.

As a retired personal support worker, Barb loves volunteering at TROtt because it enables her to do her two favourtie things, working with horses and helping people. We love having Barb on our team, she is often early to lessons and will volunteer to be our demonstration rider when we host training sessions. Her favourite part about being a demo rider is showing the trainees the emergency dismount.
